What to Expect

Relaxed, flexible sessions built around the person- not the pose.

A Session Made for Them

There is no pressure to smile, make eye contact, sit still, follow traditional poses, or perform for the camera.

Each session is shaped around the participant’s personality, communication style, interests, sensory needs, and comfort level. We move at their pace and make space for breaks, movement, quiet, play, or whatever helps them feel most like themselves.

What the session may look like

Before the Session

Before we meet, I’ll ask a few questions about the participant’s interests, preferences, communication, sensory needs, and anything that may help the session feel easier.

You are welcome to share favorite activities, comfort items, music, special interests, or anything else that helps them feel safe and connected.

During the Session

Sessions are relaxed and participant-led. We may walk, play, explore, talk, take breaks, or change direction completely.

There is no expectation to force interaction or continue through discomfort. The goal is not perfection. The goal is to create honest images that feel like them.

After the Session

You will receive a carefully edited collection of portraits from the session.

With your permission, selected images and stories may be included in the Faces of Autism project and shared during the April showcase.

Helpful details

Please Bring

A favorite toy, comfort item, snack, drink, communication device, headphones, or anything else that may help the participant feel comfortable.

Clothing should feel familiar and comfortable. There is no need to dress in a way that does not feel like them.

You Know Them Best

Parents, caregivers, and participants are always encouraged to speak up, suggest changes, pause the session, or tell me what is and is not working.

Flexibility is part of the experience.
